Paper Towel Holder
A sleek paper towel holder with a weighted top for easy one-handed tearing while helping keep the roll covered and clean.
This paper towel holder was designed to make one-handed tearing easier without adding a complicated mechanism. A weighted top rests on the roll and uses gravity to create just enough downward pressure to keep the paper towels from spinning freely. That resistance makes it easier to tear off a sheet with one hand, while pressing down on the top provides extra resistance when needed.
The top also covers the exposed upper edge of the roll, helping keep the paper towels clean and giving the product a more finished appearance. The overall form was designed to feel simple, modern, and unobtrusive on a kitchen counter.
From the beginning, the design was developed with mass production in mind. The internal components are simple and can be produced using existing manufacturing processes and infrastructure, keeping the product inexpensive and straightforward to manufacture at scale.
To test whether the idea had real market appeal, I made a small batch of 20 holders at home out of wood and listed them on Etsy for $80 each. The entire batch sold out, providing early market validation and confirming that customers were willing to pay (premium prices) for the design before pursuing larger-scale manufacturing or licensing opportunities.
